162 Massachusetts - Boston edition

day 13 july 12

Said goodbye to N and D and took the train to Boston... Arrived to a hotter than ever afternoon, and met Mel and Pat who took me back to the apartment. First and lasting impressions of Boston - a much smaller, slower (that's not hard) moving New York, but still full of the shops and food of the Big Apple. It was all just more downscaled. Here we live just off the main shopping street Newbury Street is full of lines of connected brick building shops. A lot of them have cafes or eateries below them on ground orAfterunderground level. We went straight to the Prudential Centre mall around the corner and onto a quick duck tour of the city. Tbh I never had any historical knowledge of Boston so this was a great quick way of getting to know my bearings as well as some interesting facts. The duck vehicle is amphibious so it can drive around on land as well as water which was rather fun. We learned about the Italian North End, the clean up of the Charles River, the interesting history behind the Isabel Gardner museum and other quirky things which I won't remember. Came back and had a lol chinese take aways from the mall foodcourt at Panda Express... The orange chicken satisfied Mel's sweet and sour pork craving (of course) but the BBQ pork was grozzzz.

day 14 july 13

Had a bit of a sleep in after a hooorrible nights sleep - htf can the apartment get so bloody hot. Mel and Pat after finally getting a decent room came to move into the lounge next to me again for a/c in your face. Went to Harvard today - it was a very strange feeling - somewhat very dumb yet very smart at the same time. Got pretty obsessed and inspired by a model by Greg in the Architecture School. Had a peek at the book shops at Harvard and MIT, by this time it was ridiculously lamely pouring so we went home. Hunted out Maggiano's for dinner - a homestyle Italian restaurant which wasn't in the North End but had pretty dece reviews. Menu was massive and everything tingled my taste buds. The most bang for your buck meal yet - they weren't that cheap but freaking HELL they were massive. We ordered this mozzarella marinara appetizer which the waiter told us was one little piece of bread crumbed mozzarella with marinara sauce - it arrived in the form of 2 decent toast sized 2cm thick slabs on a bigger than dinner plate dish. Finished a third of my pasta so well at least that saves on food for tomorrow. The pastas were good and full of flavour and stuff. So full and massively CHEESE HEAD we rolled our way home and into a cheesy dream.

day 15 july 14

Bit of a shopping and wandering day... Didn't really do much. Went discovering around the North End in the arvo which was a cool little area jam packed full of Italian restaurants/gelato shops etc. It almost felt like I was in Europe for a second. Had the most  Pretty full from pasta left overs but came back to eat at 5 Napkin Burger - had walked past here a few times and the photos looked farrr too tempting. You just can't find legit burgers like this in NZ! Had the 5 Napkin classic which had pretty much the standard with a interesting and delish rosemary aioli.
