144 ruby spring summer 11/12

Today is one month until I depart for some serious travelling. And I still have so much to sort out! Eek. Well before I become a well travelled girl I thought this would be a fantastic time to share Ruby's new spring and summer collection for the warmer months ahead - because firstly yes I am going into summer and missing the cold winter (nothing like a bit of visual inspiration and mental preparation), and secondly, the new collection embraces the travelling girl in all of us!

Entitled 'Boardwalk', this season's collection is about a European Vacation, and a perfect summer's day. The bright sunset colours and patterns remind me something of the wonderfully exotic Greek islands or something (who knows, I'll tell you when I come back). There are wonderful tie-dye silks, washed out and patchwork denim, and bright pops of pink and orange which stand out among sandy greys and beiges.

I also love that Ruby and Madame Hawke have separated their spring and summer pieces this season. It shows a subtle clarity to the collections and in this traveller's journey gives a sense of moving place to place. My picks for next summer - Sunset sweater, ankle cuff Boardwalk heels, Silky riva dress, and Boating dress. Bring on the warmer months!

ruby-frost

NZ Music Month - A new fave song, the latest from Ruby Frost - she is a darling!! This song is dangerous - one or two listens and it will be stuck in your head. Stalked it off Zara Mirkin's amazing blog, who worked on the video with director Veronica Crockford-Pound. The riff just reminds me of old Chinese pop songs heard in my childhood. Awesome.

142 new addition to the showroom at ruby

Gave my drawing to the lovely girls at Ruby today. It's always bittersweet parting with drawings, but it's found a new home in their showroom so I'm very stoked :)

Here's a little shout out from Ruby's blog, and another from MH. Lots of love!

140 w's first ever beauty issue features emily baker

Three of the industry's hottest models feature in W's first ever beauty issue, including "Kiwi Beauty" Emily Baker. They describe the 17 year olds come-hither eyes, chiseled cheekbones and a sculpted jawline as the stunning combination that has launched Emily straight into the international spotlight. I love this photo of Emily; look at those sultry eyes! And it's the first time I've not been immediately drawn to those damn sharp cheekbones.

2 songs 2day.

Firstly, a compilation album dedicated to the late Buddy Holly will be released in June this year. It has an amazing talent of artists - The Black Keys, Paul McCartney, Florence & The Machine to name a few. Here's my main man Julian covering Rave On.

Secondly, we are now mid music month here and although day after day all the proof of happenings I can see from my wee kiosk are the tshirts at Hallensteins, here is a bit of fun. It is Watercolours new vid, the song is called Under. It's an amazing video! With such good stills. This is my favourite still:

Sometimes I greatly over estimate my own capabilities such as being able to produce one drawing a year. Around this time last year I finally finished this drawing here for my gooorgeous twin cousins for their 4th birthday.

This year, inspired by new opportunities and I guess my life direction in general (thoughtful) I am very excited to present a drawing out of Madame Hawke's most recent Journal, Volume 3 (again this would have been optimal if I had finished in time to correspond with current events when they were more current). The Madame Hawke journals are a fantastic creative collaboration with New Zealand artists such as Lou Hatton and Marissa Findlay.

The photos in Volume 3 are taken by Guy Coombes, and explore the personalities of two lovely ladies - actress Chelsie Preston-Crayford and singer Chelsea Metcalf. They are beautifully captured; innocent, ethereal and effortless moments which perfectly compliment Madame Hawke's current winter collection.

Happy Saturday! I am very excited for my French Cafe nom-ness tonight. nom nom :O Like I said, grad = food.
