85 new accomplishments - new york, roast pork, what the fork..

Life is full of little achievements and I guess we spend so much time waiting for them that when they come they are pleasant little bundles of joy. Today I completed 3 things that I have never done before in my life, which I consider to be rather outstanding things on the checklist, but it's been such a chaotic and mare-ish day that only now can I sit down and reflect on these things.

1. Year off = win. Booked flights to New York!! A one way ticket in fact. This morning was veeery stressful, almost comparable to when NOM was being made and my Mum shouts "I'm so stressed!!!!" and we were all so freaked out and in the moment...  Thankfully the travel agent looked after us well, it was an epic start to the day, even if I was an hour and a half late for work. Concrete jungle where dreams are made of, bitchesss.

2. Made crispy roast pork belly for dinner. I tell you it doesn't get much better than this :) This recipe is from Chubby Hubby a fantastic food blog which makes me drool. I just had to try this recipe! Obviously there are a mill and one roast pork recipes spamming the net, 99% dodgey, even Raymond said no recipe for roast pork is ever fail-safe, but I have gained quite a lot of respect and trust in this goodie! The meat turned out juicy and tender and not dry at all, with deeelicious flavour. The crackling sounded like the McCain crunchy chip ads but FO REALZ yo. Nuff said, party at mine.

3. Completed making a pleated skirt! Just to make my life ridiculously difficult, 1) it is chiffon 2) it is floor length 3) it is hand pleated with no Perfect Pleater :( I like to say that I intentionally only wanted to pleat a panel and not the whole thing, even though my guilty conscience (aka the aformentioned) tells me otherwise. I'll post some better photos later.

And thus ends the day of good travel, good food, and good clothes. I am ex-haus-ted!

83 muso mondays #7

Welcome back, my musical brain has been on holiday, plus lets face it, I have no idea what day it is anymore and refuse to do muso monday's on a tuesday which is when I usually remember. Here's something to dream of - a humble welcome of British a cappella talent at Heathrow airport- no instruments are used.

This outfit seems to go well with listening to She and Him. Melancholic, a bit old fashioned, sweet and dreamy. I became obsessed with this burgundy suede that I discovered, in fact I'd quite like to get every colour and make some super haptic patchwork technicoloured dream coat, even though thinking about such in this humidity usually results in me lounging around in not much more than a big t shirt for most of the day. The maxi dress was a result of wanting to make a maxi dress but knowing that so much can go wrong with such it turned out super basic, which I guess was the intention anyway.

81 today's day

Some inspiration for the day and night. Today I picked out the colours and some fabrics for my small and upcoming winter collection, and tonight I will be brainstorming my future. The heat has put me off capslock for a little while.

WASSUP 2011. So in these past couple of days off I've finally been able to sew again! This was made even more exciting by a super early birthday present from my Mum - an overlocker! I tried it out for the first time yesterday, and today I made my first top with it.

This top is kinda my obsession. I love it because of how comfy it is, how it looks like pajamas (thanks Dad), how it's a teeny bit see through, of course cos it has *stars*, the length - slighter shorter than your average tee but not a crop top, the wide hem at the bottom, and how simple but effective the collar detailing is - which was so much more of a mare than it looks to make. Worn with The Most Awesome Bikepants ever - sparkly blue/grey knit, from Lonely Hearts. Take a look at my sewing blog for more photos.
