Day 54, 22-08
Wandered around the shops in town this morning, and got pork gyros pita for lunch a few places away from the hotel, still can’t get over how good and cheap it is! We left Paros and caught the ferry to Mykonos. The ferry was a smaller (but still big) and faster (1 hour) inter-island one, but today was ESPECIALLY windy and the waves were choppy and thrashing the boat completely up the sides. There were massive lurches and everyone wasn’t feeling the best. Phoebs next to me threw up as well as a couple of others, while the rest of us were dramatic and excited. Aside from the sea sickness, we got to Mykonos in one piece and took a bus to our hotel, in the area of Plati Gialos. A beautiful blue and white hotel 2 steps away from the water, with a restaurant and pool overlooking the beach. A-maze! We did a wee walk around then came back and rested, to try feel better before tonight. For dinner we took the bus into the main town, which like Lefkes has roads and pedestrian roads built purposefully like a maze. Ridiculously easy to get lost! Zoe took us for a walk through the shops – much more than Paros filled with tempting eye goodies. We ended up at the water, and walked around it into Little Venice, named after the Venice, Italy for its proximity to the water. Restaurants line the water’s edge and at this time the sea was rough and was soaking half the dining tables! It also meant we had to time our run across the passageway… We had dinner at a place here called Alefkandros, which was meant to be good but actually the majority of the group including me ended up feeling not too good after. After dinner we went to Mex CafĂ© Cocktail Bar to get drinks and dance. This old guy behind the bar was really randomly chucking stacks of napkins out on us as this weird but cool confetti effect. Free shots and t shirts. Afterwards we went to Scandinavian Bar and Disco, a rowdy club filled with good music, more free shots and clothes and a crazy crowd, guys to girls 9:1. An awesome night!
Day 55, 23-08
Had an amazing sleep in till 10 then had a yummy breaky overlooking the water. We spent the next few hours lying on the beach loungers and swimming with some of the other girls. Best swim of the trip! The water was the clearest ever, so refreshing, and basically a dream – the whole morning was heaven. Took the bus into town at around 2, had chicken gyros pita for lunch and spent the afternoon wandering and getting lost. Shop after shop filled with lots of jewellery, souvenirs, clothes and bags. I got dazed by the heat, and we got back to the hotel in time for a shower before dinner. We had dinner as a group down at the hotel restaurant overlooking the beach which was surprisingly good, I had filled grilled squid which was very satisfying.
super cool photos fran!! and the food looks amazing :D
