53 THE STATE OF YOU

On a similar note of Kiwi's going hard... I just thought I'd have a little rant. Haha what a word. Have I mentioned how obsessed I am with the state of NZ fashion? It is constantly talked about in the fashion industry as being down to earth, wearable, playful, simple but spot on, young brands are creating such massive cult followings for themselves both here and overseas. While in other areas of the arts (music/art/dance/etc) the sad reality is that it is a massive struggle for names to be put out there overseas, and don't get me wrong it is not easy in the fashion industry, quite the opposite in fact, but it just seems to be one area of creative expertise where New Zealand has found themselves making a mark.

I just realised how strong I feel about this emotionally as this was originally just going to be a post about how super ace it is that Superette are opening in Wellington and Ruby Boutique in Dunedin...

But, well, the proof is in the pudding right? Just to name a few (and these are the big ones) I don't even just mean fashion designers. SGC appears to be in world domination now in over eight countries and counting, and having hit it up big time with fashion beast Urban Outfitters. Rumi Neely, arguably the world's most famous fashion blogger, of her kind anyway, regularly mentions favourites such as Lonely Hearts, SGC, twenty-seven names, Ruby, Deadly Ponies on her blog. But then theres others - Jessica Clarke is our latest model export showing at the CK exclusive in this years New York fashion week, a first for any NZer, not to mention names like Zippora Seven popping up on one of the world's best fashion photographer's, Terry Richardson's website a few days ago. So Much To Tell You's Natalie and Zoe have featured on Grazia's homepage with twenty-seven names, and Zara Mirkin is making a name for herself as the stylist behind SGCs shoots and everything in general really. IS THIS NOT AMAZING??

I love seeing young talented and passionate designers emerging here, it gives me such hope and inspiration that one day I could be as great. Things like the Westpac Young Designers Competition at NZFW and other competitions are always popping up and well, I guess this post in a sentence is I basically think it is really awesome! wooh.
