Of course we have another NZ song for NZ Music Month. Wasn't the young Nathan King such a good looking boy? These boys were my raison d'etre once upon a time - I remember getting Nathan's autograph at Villa d'Vine in a year 11 French dinner, I sent them a drawing I did of them many many years ago, I even put them in my email address...lol.

134 grad dress

I made this dress for grad in the excitement of learning about circular patterns. I love the subtle heart shaped bodice and general flowyness. It's made out of this beautiful crepe de chine type fabric, like a heavy grainy silk. Muy si!

Graduation day = sleepy + food + more sleepy + more food. Looking back I really should have stayed awake. Sorry Rita and Ash who weren't in the photoshoot, sad face.

133 zippora seven by derek henderson

A collaboration between renowned New Zealand photographer Derek Henderson and artist Kelly Thompson are producing a book with one of NZs most successful models, Zippora Seven, as the subject. Derek has a long history of working with Zippora - "The book idea came about from the many times I've worked with Zippy, I really love working with her; she has a vibe about her that radiates a kind of harmony that not too many people have". For me, she has such intriguing natural presence that translates so beautifully into photographs. I'm excited to see this progress!

It was a little kid's birthday party mixed with Alice in Wonderland - an insane stage production which appealed to all senses - yes, the air was cotton candy scented!! The minxy as theatre curtain rose, and the crowd was treated. At least 20 brilliant costume changes - the most magical of which happened in Hot and Cold where Katy would literally step into a tube or behind a box and walk out the other side in a totally different costume within 3 seconds - there were around 10 + changes in this song alone! The set was a giant candy land stage - giant lollipops and candy canes, colourful dancers, gingerbread men, giant 1m tall cupcakes which she pretended to vomit into in Last Friday Night. There was a laser show during ET, fascinating bubbles which came on during Pearl which amazingly popped into little puffs of smoke (!!??), trapezium acrobats, and a midtime game show where she performed hilarious acoustic covers including Rebecca Black's Friday... The winner was a girl (disclaimer - friend's sister's friend!) who as her prize got a kiss and a hug and a free jump off the harbour bridge with Katy which actually happened yesterday wtF!! And all throughout the show was driven by the storyline video on her big cloud screens - about Katy stuck in a dream, trying to be directed by her cat Kitty Purry to find Baker's Boy who had a yummy cupcake for her. She had even done her homework about New Zealand and tried her best to joke around with rugby and sheep. Let's face it - she's not the most vocally able (but she even pleasantly surprised me in this area!) but her theatrical concert was extremely hard to not enjoy. immensely.

I've been feeling pretty down lately, hence the lack of blogging. Can a quarter life crisis really be that bad? I wonder about what being successful really means, and who I'm working hard for, and whether there's enough time in life to achieve the things we want. A year off doing much is a long time, and although there's so much I want to work on and so much more development to be had, I sometimes feel really lonely. There's time made for friends but I am still not used to not knowing every single activity they are up to every day.

Anyway... this is a dress I made for Cissy as her 21st present. It is totally designed with her in mind, in fact as I told her today if I had to design another dress for her I wouldn't know what to do as all my knowledge of our friendship has gone into this one. It is made with this lovely floral lace chiffon - thanks Ruby Boutique for the fabric! I double layered the chiffon, the top is gathered at the front and back, and the bottom is a circular hemline. I just wish there was sliggghtly more volume to the material so it flowed a bit more. It looks a bit baggy without a belt so I decided to belt it here, but it still works without!

A couple of weeks ago W sneaked a peek into Alexander Wang's Tribeca apartment. White walls, black velvet/black goat fur/black crocodile skin seating, zebra rugs, a black fox throw - the very expression of his style. The grey scale palette allow the multitude of textures to stand out - I would just want to go around touching everything.

The exciting news is now we can even get a little closer to Wang's home. With his first flagship store in full swing, he announced to W that he will be adding in little lifestyle knick knacks to sell in the New York store. Among special desk accessories and little home lifestyle pieces, will be Alexander Wang branded Moleskines (and you thought you were cool already doodling on those blank buttery pages). 126 zippora // shakuhachi spring summer 11-12

I've always thought Shakuhachi were a bit amazingly crazy. I wasn't suuuch a big fan of their last collection for winter but I guess that's just what you get when you're amazingly crazy, and with that comes respect.

HOWEVER. Bigger things are on the horizon. They have toned down the wack. Shakuhachi's spring summer collection for next year has got me wanting big beaches and pool parties while still channeling the hippie girl which they do only too well. It's a bit too good to be true - inspired by famed Hollywood photographer Slim Aarons, the pieces are all very 60s and 70s. There is quite a lot in there - of course hippie, of course sheer laces, bigger than big lounge pants, a reasonably neutral palette with a bright pop of teal, and they have even delved into swimwear. I love the bodice bikini set, and those chunky diamond heels in the first photo and throughout are A-mazing! I love how carelessly Flintstones they are while still getting blingfactor high and a touch of tacky in the bestest kind of way. All of this greatness is exponentially complimented by Zippora Seven and those bright tangerine lips. This is gonna be insane.
